Having noted the other candidate did not adhere to the published limit of 200 words, for fairness and to ensure no undue advantages take place, please see a revised statement from myself which matches the word count of the other candidate:
I would like to begin by thanking the other candidate for putting themselves forward. In any organisation (and a car club is no exception), a challenge is a good thing and means that complacency never happens.
As the founder Chairman of this club I have been involved with the running of the club since it was established in 2015, and whilst Committee members have come and gone it is important to provide a sense of continuity to the club (which is still very young and early in its life) by an incumbent Chairman remaining to ensure the club grows, develops and most importantly succeeds in its aim to preserve the cars.
I am very well known in “Austin Rover circles” – particularly on the show-circuit and have built good working relationships with other ARG clubs, which not only benefits the Rover 800 model, but all ARG models. As these clubs tend to be small, working together where possible but retaining our separate identities will become increasingly important.
My approach is to allow each of our officials to get on with their role with minimal interference but providing support where necessary. Key to any organisation is allowing people to undertake their role to the best of their ability but without undue interference, providing support where necessary.
I acknowledge that in the period the club has been going there have been some issues regarding “fluidity” on the committee. This is inevitable in any club, but the key to this is how any such issues are managed. The club faced some problems last September when elements of the Committee decided to leave for their own reasons, however fundamental to this was how it was managed. Replacement officers were co-opted to ensure that the club continued to function and that the membership was by and large, unaware of any problems.
The club is still young, and continuity in its management is important to allow it to grow, networking with other clubs and the press. I have enjoyed Chairing the club to date and hope to contribute more in 2018. Your support to enable me to continue is most appreciated.
